Eastside Spin Jam – Poi Workshop with Samwise

March 9 @ 12:45 pm - 2:45 pm

Please join us for the Eastside Spin Jam every Saturday at the Northwest Arts Center in Bellevue, WA from 12:45-2:45.

This week we’ll be featuring our very first Eastside Workshop led by the esteemed instructor, Samwise!

From Roots to Blooms: Beginner to Intermediate Poi

Designed for beginner to intermediate poi spinners, this workshop will guide you through naturally forming patterns including in-spin and anti-spin flowers.

Discover how posture and perspective contribute to greater access to the total grid of possibility with poi. From the solid foundation of your feet to the graceful extension of your fingertips, you’ll learn how to harness the natural flow of your body to create blooming and beautiful poi flow.

Drawing upon over a decade of experience as a flow artist, prop designer, and educator, Samwise invites you to unlock the secrets of geometric flow in this immersive workshop. Whether you’re a seasoned spinner or just beginning your journey, this workshop promises to expand your understanding of flow in captivating new ways.

Bring personal props if you prefer, but we’ll have extra to share!

Workshop cost is on a sliding scale/pay-what-you-can basis. Suggested donation is $10-35.

About the artist:
For the past 12 years, Samwise has been honing his skills as a flow artist, with a particular affinity for poi spinning, dedicating a decade to mastering this mesmerizing art form. His expertise extends beyond personal practice, as Samwise has become a respected educator in the flow arts community.

Samwise has shared his knowledge and insights with eager learners at many festivals including PFG, Fire Drums, and Poi Parliament. Renegade workshops hold a special place in Samwise’s heart, where he thrives on the spontaneous exchange of flow concepts, enriching the community with his unique perspective. Originally hailing from Colorado, Samwise’s journey has taken him across the United States, immersing him in diverse flow cultures and styles.

One of Samwise’s greatest passions lies in the study of shapes, both physical and conceptual. He has dedicated years to developing terminology specific to four poi spinning, a prop he has passionately embraced as his favorite. In essence, Samwise is not just an incredible flow artist, but a skilled maker, geometer, and shapesmith weaving together the threads of creativity to craft a vibrant tapestry of flow arts excellence.
