FlowShop: Intermediate Contact Staff w/ Corey Webb

February 28 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Event Series Event Series (See All)
Join us this week for another contact staff class taught by Corey Webb!

This is an Beginning/Intermediate Level contact staff workshop.

** Corey’s Intermediate Single Staff Shindig **

On the heels of Corey’s last contact staff workshop, we’ll do a quick review on the foundation moves we learned at the Single Staff Soiree and then work up to full contact reels, contact antispins, the Steve, and the Angel roll.

There are many modifications, takeouts, and interruptions to dress these moves up and take your single contact staff flow to the next level. We’ll explore those after practicing ways to protect your face and body while executing these moves. We’ll also work towards understanding and practicing the frontside Angel roll, vertical Steve, and maybe the devil roll if there is enough time!

Corey has been a member of the flow community for most of a decade, and focuses mostly on static props—contact staff, double contact staff, double & triple staff, dragon staff, swords, cutlasses, trident, and even a custom made Fire Gaundao. They taught their first contact staff workshop with us at Flowshop in 2019 and are back to share some of their single staff skills with the community.

Suggested donation for workshops is $10-35, sliding scale/pay-what-you-can.

What should I expect at FlowShop?

Friendly faces and welcoming spaces. Open jams are an unstructured time to come together and practice flow arts while building connections and community. Many love teaching. All props, skill levels and movement modalities are encouraged and welcome!

Don’t have a prop of your own? Post to the event and we can bring some props from our community prop library!

How To Find Us at the Phinney Ridge Community Center: Navigate to the Lower Parking Lot and enter the brick building at the doorway at the bottom of the stairs. Once inside, go down the stairs and to the left.

Accessibility: There is a street entrance to the studio space that does not require stairs on Daytona Ave. Enter the double doors of the brick building and turn immediately to your right.

Donations keep us spinning! We believe in creating spaces that are financially accessible and also believe that artists deserve to be paid. Your donation to FlowShop helps support fair wages for working artists and covers the cost of renting the space.

Cost for workshops is on a sliding scale/pay-what-you-can basis, $10-35 suggested.
